Longwave is a quiet radio for the hours you spend at a desk. It plays long, unobtrusive music with slow crossfades between tracks, so nothing ever jolts you out of what you are doing. There is no account, no advertising and no feed to scroll — just a channel list and a play button.

Channels are organised by what you are doing rather than by genre. Five of them are curated playlists of openly licensed recordings — Focus for deep work, Relax for winding down, Sleep for the night, Background for email and admin, and Momentum for pushing through a long stretch.

The rest are synthesised in your browser while you listen, so they never repeat and cost nothing to stream: brown, pink and white noise, nature sounds such as rain, surf and thunderstorms, and generative ambient music on the Endless, Infinite, Smooth and Morning channels.

Channels

• Focus — formless and slow, with nothing that pulls your attention. For deep work.
• Relax — warm, unhurried piano. For winding down or reading without rushing.
• Sleep — the longest and darkest of it. Barely moves, and never startles.
• Background — light and easy on the ear. For email, admin and shallow work.
• Momentum — a little more shape and pull. For pushing through a long stretch.
• Noise — steady brown, pink and white noise to cover a room.
• Nature — rain, thunder, surf, wind, crickets and caves, synthesised rather than recorded.
• Endless — composed in your browser, and never the same piece twice.
• Smooth — warm electric piano, unhurried seventh chords, a brush keeping time.
• Morning — struck wood and warm air, played by hand, in a room with the light in it.
• Infinite — one piece with no end and no repeat, composed while it plays.
